How to start wakesurfing? Your ultimate guide.

Driver plays a crucial role in wakesurfing. Your speed is between 10-12 mph. Please accelerate gently it isn’t wakeboarding.

Speed will affect wake size and shape. Experimenting to find an ideal wake for each rider.

 

The wakesurf boat

Not all boats are created for wake surfing. The ideal boat for wakesurf is an inboard propeller, whether in a direct or V-drive configuration. All famous brands: Malibu, Tige, and MasterCraft produce proper boats. These boats have ballast bags and a special system for shaping wake like a Tige TAPS 3T or Malibu Power Wedge.

 

Rope

Don’t use the wakeboard or ski rope for wakesurfing. Ideal rope for wakesurfing 15' - 25’.

You can choose a board depending on your weight. Check official sites of top-notch wake surf producers: Kanuk, Liquid Force, Phase 5, and choose a board that is good fit for you.

 

How to get up wakesurfing

  1. Start in the water with the board perpendicular to the boat.
  2. Mimic your stance from other board sports.
  3. Place your heels shoulder-width apart on the board, signal the driver to start, and push down on your heels.
  4. Stand up once the board planes, keeping knees slightly bent, and lead hip towards the tow handle.
  5. Maneuver over the whitewater hump, release the rear hand from the towrope handle, and face the wake.
  6. Adjust weight distribution on your feet to control speed and direction.
  7. Practice until comfortable, then let go of the rope and enjoy wakesurfing!
